Industria activismului este compusă din organizaţii şi indivizi care şi-au făcut un ţel în viaţă din activism, implicându-se în acţiuni care să determine schimbări. Numărul organizaţiilor care angajează persoane care să îndeplinească aceste activităţi este suficient de mare ca activismul să fie acum un job clasificat în multe ţări. Mişcările în cadrul spectrului politic pot fi considerate ca activiste în natura lor.

Multe organizaţii a căror activitate principală este activismul pot fi considerate ca organizaţii non-profit. Unele din ele sunt organizaţii non-guvernamentale.
