Brasov, the city of the bears

Braşov (Hungarian: Brassó; German: Kronstadt; Medieval Latin: Brassovia or Corona) is a city in Romania and the capital of Braşov County, with a population of 284,596, according to the 2002 census, is the 7th largest Romanian city, after Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timişoara, Iaşi, Craiova and Galaţi. First bear sanctuary has been set up outside Brasov and opened in Autumn 2006. The aim of the sanctuary is for the bears to get a taste of freedom and to live in a large enclosure in a wooded hillside. There is a Bear hospital as part of one of the enclosures where the bears can be checked and receive medical attention and observation posts to monitor their progress. (Bear Sanctuary)
