Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, or J.M.G. Le Clézio (born April 13, 1940 in Nice) is a French novelist. He was awarded the 1963 Prix Renaudot and the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008 awarded Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien "for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP".

The green fluorescent protein (GFP) is composed of 238 amino acids (26.9 kDa), originally isolated from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria/Aequorea aequorea/Aequorea forskalea that fluoresces green when exposed to blue light.
